PJ’s Daily Devotional for Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
I’ve noticed that more and more people are using the word “Blessed!” to describe themselves, their families, and their situations.
I’ve been using the word “blessed” or “blessing” in my everyday language for years, because it is biblical, accurate, and true.
Listen to how Paul starts off his letter to the Ephesians, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3).
Biblically, it is true and right for a Christian—a person who belongs to and has submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ—to say they are blessed; for in Christ we have every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. This is an amazing truth and promise!
What does it mean to be blessed? It means that we are forgiven and adopted by the Father, redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ, and sealed by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (read Ephesians 1:3-14 to learn more). Jesus Christ has blessed us by taking all the curses of God that we deserve for our sin onto Himself and gave us His right standing (righteousness) with God. In Christ, God will never withhold any blessing from you because you rightfully and legally belong to Him as an adopted son with right of inheritance as one of His chosen people.
That is your heavenly blessing!
With the privilege of being blessed, comes the responsibilities. Ready?
You have not been blessed to hoard the blessing, but to bless others; you have been blessed to be a blessing! As Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).
As you awake up today; I pray that you really and truly WAKE UP to this truth.
Here are 4 quick tips to help you start your day off right, every day:
- Remember that you are blessed! Say this to yourself at the start of each day and throughout the day as necessary: “In Jesus Christ, I am blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” If you memorize this, it will help you walk faithfully in your blessing. It will help you keep your eyes focused on Jesus.
- Are your eyes open? Every morning pray to the Lord, “Jesus, please open the eyes of my heart so that I may know You more.” Your true blessing is not the house, the car, or the cash, or any earthly possessions, but the unbreakable and unfathomable intimacy you have with God in Jesus Christ. Do you see it?
- Are you thankful for this new day and all the potential for blessing others it contains? It is amazing how an attitude of gratitude can change the course of your day. Start off by thanking God!
- Plan to give the blessing away! God’s blessings are a deep well that can never be emptied. In fact, the more you give away the blessings of God, the more you find the deep reservoir of blessing within yourself through the Holy Spirit’s power, presence, and peace.
May these tips help you not just say you are blessed, but to experience the reality of your blessing. May others experience this through you and want what you have.
