Today’s Bible Reading is First Peter 4 found at https://www.esv.org/1+Peter+4/

Do you believe that love works?

I want you to think about it: in very practical ways, does love work?

Listen to how the Bible commands those who live by the Spirit upon the earth, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling” (1 Peter 4:8, 9).

When you love people, it shows that your sins are forgiven.

When you love people by serving them and meeting their practical needs, it shows you belong to Jesus Christ.

Love that is given to another person is evidence of your faith in God! Apart from love, there is no evidence. No amount of theology, church attendance, or religious apparel proves your faith. Only one thing: love.

Jesus, in all of His authority as the Son of God and Savior of the World, boiled down Christianity in this one commandment: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34, 35).

In his old age, John the beloved of Jesus Christ, gave us this revelation: “We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother” (1 John 4:19-21).

This is the proof in the pudding. This is the hard work of being a Christian. Christianity is not a life of rules, does and don’t, religious activity, or intellectual beliefs. Christianity is about the God who is love saving us through His love for the sake of being love to the world! If you are not loving, you are missing the whole point.

Whom shall you love?

Start by loving those immediately around you and then those you encounter directly in your days. Love goes beyond, but love starts where you are. Love begins with you, where you are. If not you, then who?

Let’s keep it simple: “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling” (1 Peter 4:8, 9).
