You are blessed!

How? Let’s find out…

Just as Jesus gave the blessing in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-11), so we now finish with the seven beatitudes of the Revelation of John. Unlike Jesus’ sermon, these beatitudes are found from the beginning to the end of the book of Revelation, with the last two being in today’s concluding chapter.

The first is found in Revelation 1:3, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.”

The second “Blessed!” is found in 14:13, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

The third in Revelation 16:15, “Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”

The fourth in Revelation 19:9, “And the angel said to me, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true words of God.’”

The fifth in Revelation 20:6, “Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.”

The final two “Blessed” are in the last chapter of Revelation 22:7 & 14, “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book” (7) and “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates” (14).

You are blessed! Not as a reward, but as a result! As you have disciplined your life for godliness and sincerely read God’s Word with the motive to listen and obey, the result will be that you are blessed.

You are blessed when you listen and obey to the words of the prophecy of this book (1:3 & 22:7).

You are blessed when you remain pure from the defilements of this world and anticipate the promises of eternity set before you at the finish line of this race set before you (14:13, 16:15, 19:9, 20:6 & 22:14).

So, finish the race set before you. You have everything you need to be “Blessed!” As Jesus said at the end of the Sermon on the Mount, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24).

What will be your response to having read the prophetic promises of God in the Revelation of John?
