Seize the Moment – Day 410

Today’s hymn focus will be “I Love to Tell the Story”

 Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name

of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey

all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always,

even to the end of the age.”

Born in 1834, Katherine Hankey was raised in a Christian home, and even though her family was well off financially, she felt a calling to minister to the less privileged. At the age of 18, she moved to London and began teaching bible studies classes to the women working in the factory. She continued this work for more than a decade, until she became seriously ill. Forced to quit her work and be restricted to bedrest, she wrote a very long poem…one hundred verses long!

After her recovery Major General Russell read the poem at the international YMCA convention. It inspired William Doane to take part of it and compose “Tell Me the Old, Old Story” and William G. Fischer took a part and composed our hymn for today:

I love to tell the story!  Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old, old story.  Of Jesus and His love.

We need to wake up and realize that it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to share the story of Jesus and His love and help make disciples. We can never grow tired of sharing this message of love and hope.

I Love to Tell the Story

1
I love to tell the story of unseen things above:
of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true.
It satisfies my longings as nothing else could do.

Refrain:
I love to tell the story,
’twill be my theme in glory,
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.

2
I love to tell the story. ’Tis pleasant to repeat
what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
the message of salvation from God’s own holy word.

[Refrain]

3
I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
seem hungering and thirsting to hear it, like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,
’twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

[Refrain]
