Seize the Moment – Day 1327

Today’s hymn focus will be

Jesus Saves!

John 14:6 (NASB95)

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

Priscilla J Owens was a school teacher in Baltimore, MD who loved to write songs for children’s services at Union Square Methodist Church. When asked to write a song for an upcoming missionary service, the words of 1 Timothy 1:15 inspired her. It states:

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”

It originally sung to the chorus from an opera, but William J Kirkpatrick composed a vibrant melody for the words of her poem to become the song that we sing today.

            We have heard the joyful sound – Jesus Saves! Jesus Saves!

            Spread the tidings all around – Jesus Saves! Jesus Saves!

We need to wake up and proclaim the message of this song each and every day of our lives, until He calls us home. Don’t keep it a secret, but let it be known that Jesus Saves!

Jesus Saves!

1
We have heard the joyful sound:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Spread the tidings all around:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land,
Climb the steeps and cross the waves;
Onward!—’tis our Lord’s command;
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
2
Waft it on the rolling tide,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
Tell to sinners far and wide,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
Sing, ye islands of the sea,
Echo back, ye ocean caves;
Earth shall keep her jubilee,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
3
Sing above the battle’s strife,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
By His death and endless life,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
Sing it softly thru the gloom,
When the heart for mercy craves,
Sing in triumph o’er the tomb,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
4
Give the winds a mighty voice,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
Let the nations now rejoice.
Jesus saves, Jesus saves;
Shout salvation full and free,
Highest hills and deepest caves,
This our song of victory,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
