Seize the Moment – Day 510

The Character of Covenant Renewal!

Exodus 34

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Monday, August 9.

How do you rebuild trust with another person?

Exodus 34 records the covenant renewal between God and Moses, which came after the people’s impatience had led to idol worship—a significant breach of trust between God and His chosen people. As God rebuilt that which the people had broken—His relationship with them—He proclaimed His character to His rebellious children in verses 6-7:

Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

Again, in verse 14, God established His law based on His character:

“for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”

You rebuild trust with another person by establishing your character and living according to it. In the above passages, God described Himself as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and truth, faithful and forgiving, just to the guilty and righteous alike, and jealous for His people.

God desires covenant renewal with His people; His character compels Him to pursue that which was lost! Luke 19:10 declares that this was the mission Jesus Christ: “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Seize the moment and return to the Lord. Trust His character by turning to Him and seeking His face today.

God bless your day!
