Seize the Moment – Day 1023

Celebrate God’s Victories in your Life!

Esther 9

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Wednesday, January 4.

How do you celebrate the major victories of your life? Is there anything that you commemorate every year because it is important for you to remember it?

The Jewish people won a major victory against their enemies (Esther 9:1-19). Mordecai commemorated their victory with a new holiday called Purim, also called the Feast of Lots, because the wicked Haman had cast lots (pur in Hebrew) for the day of their destruction (Esther 3:7; 9:26). In fact, in a Great Reversal, this holiday occurs on the same day that Haman intended for the genocide of the Jews. We read about the institution of Purim in Esther 9:20-22:

Then Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, obliging them to celebrate the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same month, annually, because on those days the Jews rid themselves of their enemies, and it was a month which was turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and rejoicing and sending portions of food to one another and gifts to the poor.

This Jewish holiday is still celebrated, and for some modern-day Jews, it is considered the most fun-filled, action-packed day of the Jewish calendar. According to a Jewish webpage, the Jewish people commemorate their deliverance from certain death through the reading of the book of Esther, the giving of gifts to the poor, and with the celebration of the Purim feast.[1]

Seize the moment and celebrate God’s victories in your life! Celebrate Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost with your church family, but also commemorate your salvation by remembering your baptism and other milestones of your Christian life.

God bless you!

Don’t Stop Short!

Esther 8

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Tuesday, January 3.

Don’t stop short of what needs to be done! It is easy to settle for less than the best of what God has for you, which often comes with disappointing, if not, disastrous results. That is certainly true in the story of Queen Esther. She could not give up her pursuit for justice upon Haman’s execution for his treachery. She had won a personal victory and gained Haman’s estate, but she could not stop short at personal wealth and political prosperity because the nation of Israel was still in grave danger. Esther had to act once again, for the good of her people, so she risked everything and pressed upon King Ahasuerus’ good graces a second time (Esther 8:1-6).

Esther’s bravery led to Mordecai being given the signet ring so that he had the authority to write a royal decree that would give the Jews the right to defend themselves. The Jewish people were saved from certain genocide, and Esther 8:16-17 testifies to their victory:

For the Jews there was light and gladness and joy and honor. In each and every province and in each and every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree arrived, there was gladness and joy for the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the dread of the Jews had fallen on them.

Esther didn’t stop with personal success! We must not stop short in fulfilling God’s will in our world. Because it’s about more than you and your happiness; God has called you to be a part of His plan to bless all the nations – “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10; Matthew 29:18-20; Acts 1:8)!

Seize the moment and don’t stop short for why God saved you from certain death – you were blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2)!

God bless you!

Choose Wisely your Measure of Judgment!

Esther 7

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Monday, January 2.

Are you quick to judge other people’s actions as deserving justice? Be warned of your hasty cry for justice; so often we are guilty too though we justify our own actions and cry out for mercy for ourselves. Jesus teaches us to choose our response wisely in Matthew 7:2,

“For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.”

At the second banquet with King Ahasuerus and Haman, Queen Esther finally requested for the king to preserve her life and the life of the Jewish people from the wicked Haman (Esther 7:1-6). With a Great Reversal, Esther 7:10 ends the climatic confrontation with the king’s judgment,

“So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king’s anger subsided.”

It is ironic, don’t you think, that Haman was hung on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai, whose only crime against Haman had been a breach of royal etiquette – he wouldn’t bow down to Haman when he rode by him at the king’s gate (Esther 3:2-3; 5:9). In response, Haman built an eighty-foot gallows for Mordecai and wrote a decree to murder every single Jew in the Persian Empire (Esther 3:4-6; 5:10-14). Quite the overstep of judgment on Haman’s part, but people are still making rash judgments to this day. Examples of this are happening in road rage incidents and school shootings across our nation.

While you may feel justified, in your own mind, to bring a judgment upon another person. STOP! Choose wisely and remember the grace God gave you when you deserved wrath –

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Seize the moment and give grace to those who don’t deserve it! In doing so, you are partaking in the divine nature (2 Peter 1:2-11). This is the way of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

God bless you!

Train to Live on Mission – Week 37

Battle Drill #37:

Train with a Battle Buddy!

Proverbs 27:17 (NAS95)

This month, I am finishing our 2022 sermon series, “Train to Live on Mission Today: The Battle Drills of a Christian Soldier.” After laying a firm foundation from 2 Timothy 2:1-4 so we can properly understand how the Bible uses the soldier imagery as a metaphor for the Christian life, we have then taken a year-long journey through the book of Proverbs. We will cover the final five chapters of God’s book of wisdom this 5-Sunday month, starting with chapter 27.

Today, we are going to walk through the four action steps of a soldier’s training routine to learn the next battle drill – “Train with a Battle Buddy!” We are going to learn the importance of spiritual friendships. I define a spiritual friend as someone you believe is important to the strengthening of your own spiritual vitality. Like every athlete needs a training partner and every soldier needs a battle buddy, every Christian needs a spiritual friend who is closer to them than a brother (Proverbs 18:24b). This is one of the foundational disciplines of a faithful Christian life.

In the military, we call the person we are assigned to train with our battle buddy. We have each other’s six, and we carry one another’s burdens. I never would have graduated the US Army Ranger School in 1997, if it wasn’t for my ranger buddy. I remember how, on a long night patrol through the swamps of Florida, he locked arms with me when I was losing consciousness; my battle buddy kept me going in the right direction until I found the necessary next gear deep down! Apart from him, I would have failed at that moment because in that unforgiving environment, there was no grace apart from what your battle buddy could give you. Wherever we were and whatever we were doing, we carried each other’s burdens. It was mutual!

Learning to train with a battle buddy is a fulfillment of Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” A battle buddy is a person we have learned we can depend upon to help us carry the burdens of God’s purposes for our lives. Let’s turn to the Field Manual and take the first step of a soldier’s training regimen.

Action Step #1) Know the Field Manual.

The battle drill we are going to learn and apply this week is from Proverbs 27:17,

“Iron sharpens iron, so one man [“friend” in the NLT[1]] sharpens another.”

This is what the Field Manual says, let’s now take the second action step to learn how to apply it to our everyday lives as good soldiers of Jesus Christ.

Action Step #2) Train together as one unit.

The Kingdom of God is a relational kingdom.

We are made in the image of God, as Genesis 1:27, teaches, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” This is the basics of Bible-believing Christianity – we were designed for intimacy with God and one another, as men and as women, both uniquely made in the image of God. Just as God exists in triune relationship with Himself, we are better together in Christ Jesus! This is one of the reasons we are enlisted by God for salvation. God knows we need to be a part of His family to experience His best for our lives, which is why He commands us to gather regularly in Hebrews 10:23-25:

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Let’s discuss the value of spiritual friendships based on today’s battle drill from Proverbs 27:17. This famous scripture, often used in accountability relationships, can be explained in a simple way, “Close friends provide constructive criticism and accountability. Just as sharpening an iron blade makes it more effective, close friends sharpen one another’s character.”[2] Because both parties are made from iron, their words are not intended to hurt one another, they are intended to aide. Paul explained to his protégé in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 what we are to use to sharpen one another in our spiritual friendships, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” We are to use the Field Manuel!

But the Word is sharp which is why Proverbs 27:5-6 teaches, “Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” In other words, your battle buddy will love you by telling you the truth, and even if their gentleness wounds you, it will be done for the sake of love. Paul admonishes us of this in Galatians 6:1-2, “Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

This is the hard work of our battle drill today, found in Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” We must not turn away from one another because one party has acted towards the other with a sincere love that was sharp. We need to be made of iron! As Paul says in Ephesians 4:15, “but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.” That brings us to the third action step of a good soldier of Jesus.

Action Step #3) Seek the Commander’s approval.

As I defined from the introduction, a battle buddy is a person we have learned to depend upon to help us carry the burdens of God’s purposes for our lives. There is a higher purpose to our spiritual friendships, which makes them different than the world’s understanding of friendship.

There is no greater desire in my life than to hear Jesus’ words as I enter His presence for eternity, “Well done, good and faithful slave” (Matthew 25:21). I know that I can’t do it alone so I want people in my life who will walk with me to this destination. I know that this goal is only possible in Christ, but I also need my brothers and sisters. The following are some biblical precedents for why I feel that I can’t accomplish God’s purposes for my life as a lone ranger; thereby, demonstrating each of our needs for a battle buddy as a foundational spiritual discipline:

  • Moses had Aaron and Hur.
  • Moses also had Joshua.
  • Naomi had Ruth.
  • David had Jonathan.
  • Elijah had Elisha.
  • Josiah had Jehoiada.
  • Esther had Mordecai.
  • Jesus had his inner circle.
  • Paul had Barnabas.
  • Timothy had Paul.

We are refreshed by one another to carry on with the mission of God. A beautiful example of this is from 2 Timothy 1:16-17 and how Paul was refreshed by his battle buddies in the mission of God, “The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me.” Another example from Paul’s testimony is found in 1 Corinthians 16:17-18, “I rejoice over the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have supplied what was lacking on your part. For they have refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge such men.” Paul did not try to conceal his need for others; rather, he openly named names, of those whose ministries refreshed his own. Not to show favoritism, but to demonstrate God’s design.

I believe that you, like Paul, want to be faithful to God and please your commander, Jesus Christ. I know you want to run the race in such a way as to not be disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:24-27), but that is exactly why you need a training partner, a battle buddy, a spiritual friend. As Proverbs 13:20 teaches us, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Never forget that when Proverbs speaks of wisdom, it is talking about the fear of the Lord – a faithful life that aligns with His commandments and fulfills His purposes.

I don’t think any of us can complete the mission, CM through difficult times, apart from the assistance of the Holy Spirit working through our battle buddies. Just like there came a time when I could not keep myself going during that long patrol in the swamps after months of fatigue and stress wore me out to the point of being like the walking dead, there will come a time where you need someone to take your arm and keep you on path, putting one foot in front of the other, helping you CM! Why wait to hit you the wall of your own pride and self-sufficiency? You can start today. This leads us to the final action step of our soldier’s training regimen.

Action Step #4) Live on mission.

The army I volunteered to serve in had a popular slogan through the 80s and 90s, “Be all you can be!” The message was clear, that if you joined the US Army, they would shape you into the best person you could possible be.

Why was this important to the military, why do they even care about your being the best you can be? Because the successful accomplishment of the mission depended on each soldier being their best!

The Commander I serve now has a higher purpose in His mind for my life and yours, one that is eternal. It is found in Romans 8:29, “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son.” In other words, God enlisted you to be all you can be – an image bearer of God, the reflection of His Son Jesus Christ for all the world to see! Why is this important to our Commander, why does He even care about your being the truest form of you? Because God is glorified when you bear His image through your faithful fulfillment of all that God intends for you to do as an image bearer of His Son, just as Ephesians 2:10 declares of your salvation, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (cf. Philippians 2:13).

Just as I have been teaching you every step of this way in this sermon series – your salvation was an enlistment into the mission of God, so that you can fulfill the Commander’s intent for your life as a member of the body of Christ – the church, the hope of the nations! Your job is to submit yourself to His rule over your life so that you can become what He always intended you to be. Today’s battle drill teaches you that you can’t become that alone – you need to train with a battle buddy. I am going to conclude by reading an excerpt from the Mentor Commentaries:

A blade is fashioned, honed to an edge and polished to a fine finish by the use of other metal – the one working over against the other. The process, though for a different purpose, is described in Isaiah 44:12: “The man shapes iron into a cutting tool, and does his work over the coals, fashioning it with hammers, and working it with his strong arm.” In a similar fashion, “one man sharpens another.” The verb translated “sharpens” in both lines describes making something sharp or keen. … We are better for our social interactions, even the ones we least appreciate. We are a debtor to every man whose path we have crossed, for no social contact need be a waste if we will but learn from it. How much more valuable, then, those friendships in which our companion has our highest good in mind! “Two are better than one” (Eccles. 4:9a). “He who walks with wise men will be wise” (Prov. 13:20a). Indeed, as we have just discovered, “a man’s counsel is sweet to his friend” (v. 9b). Think of Jonathan’s benefit to David, for he “arose and went to David at Horesh, and encouraged him in God” (1 Sam. 23:16). Little wonder we are exhorted, “let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together” (Heb. 10:24–25a). No man can be his best or reach the heights God intends for him without those blessed friends who comfort, provoke, challenge, rebuke, chide, affirm, stimulate and encourage until his thinking is clear, his wisdom mature, his purpose refined, and his faculties sharp.[3]

Athletic coaches and championships athletes know that every athlete needs a training partner to bring out their best and win the championship as a team. Military officers and veteran soldiers know that every soldier needs a battle buddy to be all they can be and ensure mission success. God knows you need a spiritual friend to be the best version of you, transformed into the image of Jesus Christ, to His glory and the accomplishment of His purposes through your life. The question is: do you know your own need for a spiritual friend?

Don’t know where to start? Start by being a spiritual friend! Make training with a battle buddy one of your top priorities of your life this year. We all need to be in the easy yoke of Jesus to find rest for our souls from the heavy burdens of living in this fallen world, then we each of us must learn to “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

Make this battle drill a reflexive, instinctive, and habitual part of your Christian life so that you can CM – Continue the Mission! Therefore, live on mission today and train the battle drill of the week for the glory of God. Let us pray.

Seize the Moment – Day 1019

Today’s hymn focus will be

Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us

John 10:2-3  (NASB95)

But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.  To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”

This hymn was written in 1836 and attributed to Dorothy A.Thrupp. Born in London, she grew up a very modest person, but loved writing stories and songs for children’s magazines. It was put to music by William Bradbury and has appeared in over 1000 hymnals.

But there is a story tied to this song is of Ira Sankey, the famous song leader for D.L. Moody. One Christmas Eve in 1876 while riding a steamboat, he was asked to sing. He sang this hymn, and the song touched a rough looking character who stepped forward and asked how he could find that shepherd. God had brought it around full circle, because this same man had heard Ira sing this song back in 1862 when Ira was a Union Soldier, and the rough character was a Confederate soldier hiding in the woods.

Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need Thy tender care

In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use Thy folds prepare

As we begin a new year, we need to wake up and ask the Savior to lead us each and every day, because we never know whose life we might be able to touch and change for eternity.

Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us

1
Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.

2
We are Thine, do Thou befriend us,
Be the guardian of our way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us,
Seek us when we go astray:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear, O hear us when we pray;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear, O hear us when we pray.

3
Thou hast promised to receive us,
Poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us,
Grace to cleanse, and pow’r to free:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Early let us turn to Thee;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Early let us turn to Thee.

4
Early let us seek Thy favor,
Early let us do Thy will;
Blessed Lord and only Savior,
With Thy love our bosoms fill:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast loved us, love us still;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast loved us, love us still.

The Great Reversal!

Esther 6

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Friday, December 30.

Have you experienced the Great Reversal in your life?

You have heard Jesus preach the Great Reversal in Matthew 20:16, “So the last shall be first, and the first last” (cf. Matthew 19:30; Mark 10:31; Luke 13:30).[1] The Kingdom of God is for the lowly and humble in heart, not the powerful and prideful in heart.

The story of Esther presents the Great Reversal through two men – Mordecai and Haman. The king unknowingly sentenced Mordecai the Jew to death through the power scheming of his chief advisor, Haman the Agagite. So far, every time Mordecai has been presented in this story, he has been positioned outside the gate, away from power, whereas, Haman has been on the inside, next to the king seeking power. Through an unexpected turn of events, the king ordered Haman to exalt Mordecai in Esther 6:10-11:

Then the king said to Haman, “Take quickly the robes and the horse as you have said, and do so for Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting at the king’s gate; do not fall short in anything of all that you have said.” So Haman took the robe and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king desires to honor.”

Mordecai had once rescued the king from an assassination plot (Esther 2:21-23). This Great Reversal came about because the king was reminded of Mordecai’s selfless service to the kingdom, which had previously gone unrecognized (Esther 6:1-3). Jesus said in Luke 14:11,

“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Seize the moment and experience the Great Reversal by answering Jesus’ invitation to come to Him and take His easy yoke – learn from Jesus how to be gentle and humble in heart (Matthew 11:28-30).

God bless you!

Seize the Moment – Day 1017

Present your Weaknesses to God!

Esther 5

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Thursday, December 29.

Are you aware of your own weaknesses? Don’t let pride blind you to what has the potential to destroy you (Proverbs 16:18).

Haman is the villain in the story of Esther – he is arrogant, ambitious, and proud. His insatiable appetite for power will lead to his downfall. At the pinnacle of Haman’s success, Esther 5:11-13 highlights how Mordecai’s refusal to bow before him at the king’s gate pokes him right where he is the most vulnerable, in his pride:

Then Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, and the number of his sons, and every instance where the king had magnified him and how he had promoted him above the princes and servants of the king. Haman also said, “Even Esther the queen let no one but me come with the king to the banquet which she had prepared; and tomorrow also I am invited by her with the king. Yet all of this does not satisfy me every time I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

Haman’s ambition blinded him to the trap that was being set for him by Queen Esther. Don’t let your weaknesses cause you to stumble and fall. The Apostle Paul had a weakness too, and he implored the Lord about his “thorn in the flesh” three times, receiving this wisdom from the Lord in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10:

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Seize the moment and present your weaknesses to the Lord; experience the sufficiency of God’s grace.

God bless you!

Seize the Moment – Day 1016

Count the Cost!

Esther 4

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Wednesday, December 28.

When confronting evil you must count the cost first – you must agree to take on yourself the consequences of your actions. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. counted the cost of leading the civil rights movement knowing that at a minimum he would spend time in jail. Ultimately, the cost of carrying his cross for the healing of our nation was his very life. The cost has not changed – freedom is never free!

Mordecai was overwhelmed with anguish upon hearing the murderous decree of the king – “he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, … and wailed loudly and bitterly” (Esther 4:1). At first, Queen Esther refused to act against this great evil, explaining how going to the king uninvited would be a breach of royal etiquette that could lead to her own death (4-11). Then Mordecai challenged Esther in verses 13-14:

Do not imagine that you in the king’s palace can escape any more than all the Jews. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?

Jesus Christ is inviting you to consider that same question as one of His followers, “Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27). Has God elevated you to a position of royalty “for such a time as this?” What good has God laid upon your heart to do? Are you willing to “suffer for the sake of righteousness” (1 Peter 3:13-17; Matthew 5:10-12)?

Seize the moment and count the cost of God’s call upon your life. You never know how God might use your courage to take action. As the missionary Jim Elliot said before his martyrdom, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

God bless you!

Seize the Moment – Day 1015

Stand Against the Enemy’s Schemes!

Esther 3

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Tuesday, December 27.

Don’t be surprised when you come up against opposition in this world because the people of God have a motivated enemy. Peter told us this in 1 Peter 5:8,

“Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Furthermore, Jesus warned us in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

In the story of Queen Esther, the plot thickens as the enemy of God and His people chose his emissary to do great evil against them – Haman the Agagite, a powerful Persian official under King Ahasuerus (Esther 3:1). He was a prime candidate to be used by the devil because he was a prideful man who was ambitious for power and honor. He hated Mordecai and plotted the genocide of the Jews (Esther 3:2-6). In Esther 3:13, we see the Persian edict he wrote and used the king’s signet ring to authorize,

“to destroy, to kill and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, women and children, in one day.”

Though the enemy’s plots appear to be insurmountable, we do not need to fear; rather, we are called to pray and put our trust in the God who promised to fight for us (Deuteronomy 20:3-4). Paul taught his protégé how to defeat the enemy’s schemes in 2 Timothy 4:17-18:

But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Seize the moment and stand with the Lord against the enemy’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10-18; James 4:7). Your victory is found through faith in the Immanuel – Jesus Christ is with you (Matthew 1:23; 28:20; 1 John 5:4-5)!

God bless you!

Seize the Moment – Day 1014

Postured for Providence!

Esther 2

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Monday, December 26.

What’s your heart posture? God is at work in the world, and He wants to work through you! Are you ready to seize the moment in agreement with God’s plans and purposes for His creation? Whether it is a willingness to go where He invites you to go, or a desire to do the work God calls you to do, what matters is that your heart is “gentle and humble,” like Jesus’ heart (Matthew 11:29). Are you postured for providence?

Esther was a beautiful Jewish woman who lived in exile during the reign of the Persian Empire. She was orphaned and raised by her uncle Mordecai (Esther 2:7). God’s providence shaped her life from a young age, so when she was taken into the harem of King Ahasuerus (Xerxes), she made the most of her situation (8-16).

Reminiscent of the story of the great patriarch Joseph, found in Genesis 37-50, Esther seized the moment in her circumstance, and according to Esther 2:15, “Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.” Esther’s heart posture set her up for success as verse 17 testifies,

“The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.”

An orphaned Jewish girl became the Queen of Persia. While God shaped Esther’s story on purpose – for His plans – Esther had to be willing to be a part of His plans! Is your heart postured for providence? Jesus promises in John 14:12, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do.” I wonder what “greater works” God has in store for you. You will never know unless you believe in Jesus and trust God to work in your circumstances.

Seize the moment and posture your heart for God’s providence. Watch. Listen. Obey.

God bless you!
